Literary Agents: How and Where to Find Them

It’s on every writer’s mind. Let’s not lie. We all want a literary agent like we all want a summer house.

It used to be a slog to find one. You’d go to the bookstore and pick up the bulky Writers’ Market book that listed all the agents. You (I) couldn’t afford to buy it, and there were no phones to snap pics of the info. After a few hours, you’ve filled up three pages on your yellow legal pad with names and snail-mail addresses. Then you’d pick up a copy of People magazine because celebrities are just like us, you know.

The internet has not only changed how we search for a literary agent, we now have direct access to them — their likes, personalities, and pictures of their dogs.

Obviously, we can’t let the desire to sign with an agent interfere with our writing. That’s what we always hear, but it is…
